dislocated

ah, some days i'm really haunted with nostalgia.
today: the town i was born, halle.

i have been there only once after i left at age 8, and even that is very long ago.
yet, whenever i see pictures of it, i think two things;

this is where i come from, and probably where i belong

and

dammit people, THIS is how you build!
not the pragmatic weird efficient straight concrete blocks that seem to attempt to eat my soul ever since i left.

i can't even explain it. something in the elaborate facades, the high ceilings, the bay windows, the old stone and metal fences makes me feel exactly like i did when i was there, finding chestnuts inbetween the fragrant fallen leaves on an autumn day.

i miss it.

cupcakes

i made cute little spring cupcakes for my friends tonight:

plain vanilla with light blue buttercream topping and very cute little marzipan carrots that had been sitting in my cupboard for a while and otherwise would have suffered a quite unfulfilling destiny.
my camera is abysmal, i know.

it's only my second go at them, and they're pretty nice. i'm not completely satisfied with the buttercream... it should be a bit fresher somehow. i've been looking for a recipe for buttercream that uses yoghurt, but i haven't found much yet. maybe it's also partially the artificial vanilla flavour,  i'll try a real vanilla pod next time :)

for further amusement i strongly recommend googling for pictures of wedding cupcakes.
you know, wedding cupcakes are such a cute thing, quirky and contemporary and still somehow classy.
maybe an idea for our own wedding in spring '12?
